I was playing golf one day with a man whom I had just met. It was one of those days when your partner suddenly decides not to show up due to some urgent matter. So, not wanting to totally spoil my day, I played with this elderly man whom I guess was about a few years older than I was.

I said hello and we started having this candid conversation about how things were going in our respective offices. And in the middle of our conversation, this new friend of mine got a call, apparently from his office, and after a while he came back to me complaining about his office assistant.

He told me how he's having difficulty with this particular person and further complained that he's paying so much for inefficiency.

"How about you?" he then turned to me. "You seem to have your office well taken."

I smiled back at him.

"And what are you smiling at?" He asked.

I just said, "Well, I've resolved that problem a long time ago when I fired my assistant and decided not to get a replacement."

I'll never forget how his jaw dropped when I said I didn't get a replacement. Feeling that I had to explain I said, "I had the same problem as yours before. I felt I was being robbed paying someone on a regular basis, showering him or her with benefits and even overtime pay at times. My main problem then was I required different skills and if I'd try to satisfy that need of mine, I'll end up hiring too many people which is something I didn't need and couldn't afford at the time."

The fellow was now listening keenly to me, waiting how my story goes. I went on saying, "I started outsourcing and there I hit 2 birds with one shot. I got the skills that I needed and I was only talking to one person!" I continued telling him how outsourcing made life better for me and described how my business benefited much from it.

My story struck the old man well that he suddenly stood up and walked to leave.

I said, "Hey, where are you going?"

He yelled back at me saying, "To my office. Got to fire that assistant of mine right away. I need a real assistant."
