Virtual Personal Assistants past, present and future

(FAST PITCH PRESS) Date Released: 05/11/2008
Press Release Image You would definitely be surprised to know that the concept of virtual assistance didn’t only exist in the twenty-first century. As early as 1970s, the idea already existed, though it could not be as comprehensively defined as it is now.

It was in 1992 when Stacy Brice decided to work as a home-based but full-time contractor to a client located in another geographical location, providing services such as travel planning, personal assistance, and even administrative support. Later on, in 1996, she partnered with Thomas Leonard, a life coach. It was during in one of the phone conversations between Leonard and Brice that the former used the term “virtual assistant.” This eventually paved the way for Brice to come up with a much clearer model about her job and provide some distinction between secretarial services and virtual assistance. Finally, in 1997, along with the launch of Brice’s AssistU (http://www.assistu.com/), a new profession was born.
