Where to Look for Virtual Personal Assistants
Press Release
Where to Look for Virtual Personal Assistants |
| Exploring the web in your quest for a VPA |
| (FAST PITCH PRESS) Date Released: 05/19/2008 |
Now, here is a more interesting part. You absolutely would want to cut
down the time you’re going to spend looking for the right places for a
VPA. I had gone through this too, and I’ll tell you, it took me almost
a month before I’ve found my own VPA. This also goes to mean that just
because you can generate thousands of webpages for the keyword “virtual
personal assistant,” you are already assured of hundreds of candidates
too. As I’ve said, not all of them are good, and you would like to stay
away from them. You can start looking for personal virtual assistants from two known professional organizations. One is VirtualAssistanceU.com (http://www.virtualassistanceu.com), and the other is International Virtual Assistants Association (http://www.ivaa.org/). The VirtualAssistanceU.com has its corporate office located at Washington DC, but all their staff are actually working remotely. They just meet and discuss through web and audio conferencing. Their main founder and head of the organization is Dr. Janet L. Jordan. Her impeccable resume will tell you why she and the rest of her team can definitely give you the kind of service that you’re looking for in a VPA. The group is considered to be "the Benchmark for VA [Virtual Assistant] Training.” This is because their “innovative, global interactive ‘virtual training programs’ provide opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds and experience to meet, share knowledge, develop marketing tools, learn innovative techniques, and form mutually beneficial alliances.” One of the organizations that are striving to obtain professionalism and standards in the industry is the International Virtual Assistants Association. This is mainly managed by a group of VPAs who volunteer a portion of their time and energy in creating not just a directory of professional virtual assistants but also policies and code of ethics that will make them more dedicated, committed, and honest to their respective duties as VPAs: It is their mission to do the following: 1. To provide access to the leading Virtual Assistant organization to Professional Virtual Assistants world-wide. 2. To educate the general public and the business community on the role and function of Virtual Assistants. 3. To promote and require high professional standards through member commitment to the IVAA Code of Ethics. 4. To provide our members with cutting-edge professional certification programs and reward completion of this rigorous program with the esteemed IVAA CVA designation as tribute to their demonstrated professionalism, skill levels and ethical business practices. 5. To assist our members to operate their VA practices more efficiently and profitably by providing education and benefits to promote the entrepreneurial work ethic, strengthen their wealth creating capacity, and enhance general economic development. 6. To build strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations to foster networking opportunities while promoting innovative and effective changes in the business culture to reflect the Virtual Assistance profession. 7. To serve as a resource for businesses seeking Professional VAs by maintaining a free, easily accessible on-line database to simplify the task of locating the best qualified VA for their needs. A simpler method to look for VPAs may include getting recommendations from your family members. Perhaps you have a brother or probably your parents have their own virtual personal assistants themselves. Surely, they can give you a tip or two not only on how to look for a VPA but also where to exactly find one. The good thing about getting recommendations is that you are assured that you are searching for your VPA at the right place. You can also try to drop by forums, such as message boards and e-groups, of professional virtual assistants. Some of them are looking for new clients, while others are more than willing to help you out since they know that it’s going to be a win-win situation for them: they get to have one of their friends employed while you have a VPA for your own. You can also try looking for them in Virtual Assistants Directory. They would normally upload their own resume or create their profile, so it becomes a lot more convenient for you to take a look at their skills and make your assessments and come up with a decision. Of course there is a wide choice of virtual assistance companies, that Timothy Ferris opened up in his book, the 4 Hour Week. Timothy identified Get Friday in India, as a source, but Perry goes further and beyond, and recognizes Ask Sunday as a rival, but Catch Friday always will be his favorite, will it I wonder be yours too? I use Catch Friday for secretarial, writing and admin tasks. I also use them for SEO Search Engine Optimization and web design. Sometimes I use them for Quick Books.

I’m so glad you mentioned virtual assistants. I am a VA and one of the things I stress to my clients is when you are freed from administrative tasks, you can do what you do best and not be mired in daily tasks that hold you back.
One really great product for those of you thinking of hiring a VA is http://tinyurl.com/26fbn8
