Facebook News: What is Networking and what is not?
Networking isn't selling! The number of times someone has invited me to join their network, and then immediately tried to sell me something, is an immediate turn off to me - you know I can get sales without networking don't you? Advertising brings me more sales than networking - fact.
Do you know that the quickest way to destroy a sale, is through trying to convince someone to buy!
You obviously believe wholeheartedly in your product, and you may think that everyone wants to buy it - too the point that you invite me to join your network, and then you send me a computerized card directly to my home, inviting me to send free several of the same, in the hope that I will buy from you. With respect that isn't networking, that's another way of trying to get someone to buy isn't it?
The card that you sent me is skillfully written by I'll guess a copywriter? In the card are the words: "I'm in the business of helping you build relationships with your clients, and gathering more business" - now that's networking! However it's disguised and used badly in this context - i.e. if you want your business to be a success, do business with me and reap the rewards!
What a load of poppycock!
I use Fast Pitch Networking for boosting my sales pitch, and that's for real, but curiously enough I am not trying to openly sell on it - the media coverage it gives me, goes a long way forward to boosting my brand in awareness!
Do you think you have to join a network to sell to the other members? Ecademy does it all the time, and that's why I left Ecademy - I got fed up with best practice telling me what to do and what not to do, which was particularly hypocritical when Blackstar members among others, were selling all the time - things I didn't want to buy!
Facebook in comparison allows you to network with loads of fellow entrepreneurs, whilst not telling you how to do it.
I don't do affiliates - Surprise, surprise!
I don't believe in the word Success or Successfully, the way they write it that is!
There are too many cowboys out there, saying Get Rich Be Happy - what a load of crap!

THE SONGWRITER BUZZY LINHART ONCE SAID,
"YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE FRIENDS." indisputable. But 5,000 friends? Questionable. The point is to keep in closer contact with those who are
already in one's social circle.
I am very fortunate to have Jeff Pulver on one of my networks, a guy who has too many friends, and kicks one off when another one joins!
In contrast, Networking Yourself to More Sales. By: Grant, Elaine Appleton, U.S. News & World Report, 00415537, 5/12/2008, Vol. 144, Issue 13:
Jason Alba suggests to get involved on Facebook in a group related to your profession. Make comments,
point to your blog posts--provide value. If you're really ambitious,
Alba says, develop a small Facebook application that relates to your offerings. (That's how Lending Club, a person-to-person lending site with thousands of users, got its start.)
Alba uses Twitter to attract new readers to his blog: "Every time I post to my blog, I put the headline up on Twitter. It goes to 373 people who aren't reading my blog, and they'll click on that headline."

The success of telling people in your network what you are writing about, or what you are doing defines whether you are selling, networking or being social and not plastic. Commenting on Twitter, has led to networks like Facebook, Ecademy and Fast Pitch doing the same.
So Networking to me, is meeting some real people who will become real friends, and also having in my network cyber friends, who I will try to help with useful advice, as well as using Facebook for building my brand online.
What about you - what do you consider networking?
In all my blogs people are allowed to comment, admittedly though I have the right to edit, as your comment will be seen in my brand awareness - and I do not allow direct selling, do you?
Equally asking for my contact details in your address book is not networking, and the number of Facebookers asking, 'I want your info' - I refuse to give - if you don't know it by now, you never will!
