A Few Tips on How to Get ReTweeted

If you are new on Twitter, then you are probably wondering what the “RT @username” means. RT simply means “retweet” which means the user is simply reposting a brilliant message that another user has posted.  Having your message retweeted is an effective way for your message to reach more people than those that are following you on your Twitter network.  Retweeting essentially works like a backlink, the more people retweet your message, the more links there will be to your original message and the more possibilities there are of people checking out your profile.

Here are a few tips on how you can get your messages retweeted:

1.)    Keep your messages “meaty”.  The only way your messages can get retweeted is when you post messages that are of value.  When you share messages that are useful, people would naturally want to share this message to the people in their own network.

2.)    Have a clear direction for your twitter.  So what purpose do you want your Twitter account to have?  Having a clear direction and theme for your twitter will help you in attracting the right kind of followers on your network who are interested in the things that you have to say.  By attracting people who understand and believe your messages, you are attracting people who are on the same level of thinking as you are and who will be more than willing to retweet your message just as long as they find them useful.

3.)    Keep your messages short.  It will be difficult for people to repost your message if it is too long.  Be creative in creating meaningful but short messages. Take a tip from users like Randy Gage who are able to come up with short messages that are meaningful for his followers.

4.)    Keep the noise down.  Use direct messages for some of the replies to your personal contacts. Remember not to post meaningless messages on your account.  When you have decided what direction you want your twitter to take, do not post messages that are not in line with that direction. Eliminate the noise.  Keep everything clean and simple.  This way those who are not on Twitter will not be bombarded by all sorts of messages when they check out your account.

5.)    Use a meaningful but short username. You need to have a short username because when people retweet your message your username becomes part of the message.  You need to make sure that other people can retweet your message without exceeding the maximum character limit of 140.

6.)    Tweet at the peak hours.  Try to check what time majority of your followers are online. This way they can easily see your tweets when you post them and they can easily repost them.  Many users follow hundreds of people on Twitter and not all of them follow each and every single message posted on the site.  Some people may not catch your important messages at all.
