Only Ten Percent of the Users Generate Majority of Twitter Content
A study released by Harvard revealed only 10% of Twitter users generate 90% of Tweets
If you are an active on the micro-blogging site on Twitter, you will probably notice that there are people who tweet practically every hour on the site or that person could be you. According to the results of a study conducted by Harvard, out of the 300,000 randomly selected users they chose for the study, only 10% posted 90% of all messages. In simple terms, out of every ten messages you receive on the network, 9 of them will most likely be posted by a single user. If you are active on the network, that does seem accurate. The study also revealed that more than 50% of the users only post messages once every 70 or so days.
While the whole network composed of millions may only be dominated by a few thousands when it comes to content, this should not discourage companies from taking advantage of the social network to touch base with clients. If anything, this should encourage companies to be among the few that generate relevant content on Twitter. If you are using the network for marketing and bringing your brand to the masses, then your goal is to get as many people following and trusting the messages you post on the site.
To take advantage of Twitter, companies must understand that it’s not the amount of messages you post per day that will get the people hooked to your account, it is the quality of your messages that matters. You could have thousands of followers online but if they are not responding to your Tweets, then they could have just followed you automatically without the intention of really following your messages.
If you create real connections on the network, then it should be easy for you to gauge the public’s reaction to your brand. Some users may be more vocal than others but you can still receive good feeback from the vocal users. Any feedback is always good for a company as it helps companies evaluate their products. With a good network, you can also get your marketing message out there through retweets.
But for Twitter and other social networks to work for your company, you should establish real connections with users and this is only possible if you have a real person managing your social accounts for you. Do not rely on software or spambots to deliver your messages to consumers. Web savvy users will be on to you and can easily ignore your messages or even block you. If you do not have the time to build your Twitter network or create content for the site, you can hire a virtual assistant to help you.
