New Media Providing Better PR Opportunities

There has not been a more exciting time for public relations and marketing than today.  With the boom in internet use and the development of new tools and new applications that people can leverage on for personal and business communications.  Today the mechanics of public relations has changed.  It is no longer enough to get coverage from traditional media such as newspapers, TV and radio, it is also very important to get published online because millions of people use the internet as its main source of information.  The internet also provides companies with the opportunity to reach a global audience.  In the past, PR was mostly about communicating with your target audience through a local medium. Today, the more audiences you can reach the better because people are communicating globally.

You can get your article published in a blog by someone in Asia and still gain clients from another continent.   With the internet there is so much information-sharing happening on a global scale.  The internet is also providing companies with the opportunity to connect to more people on a more personal level.  Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook can help you communicate with individuals and micro-manage your PR.  These social networks also provide opportunities for companies to get the pulse of the public and know what the people’s views are of the company.  By engaging customers through the social networks, a company can get feedback from people without the need to hire companies to do surveys.

With the internet and new channels for communicating with people being developed all the time, companies can now offer better customer support and communicate with clients who have issues with the company or its products before it gets out of hand and becomes a PR nightmare.

Most of the problems people have with the public can be avoided with proper PR.  When people understand where the company is coming from and when they feel that the company is reaching out to them, then there is less likely to be any major public relations problems that a company has to deal with. And even if a crisis situation arises, the internet provides companies with a communication tool to help them disseminate information faster so that the people will understand what is going and be guided.
