How Restaurants can Take Advantage of Twitter and Other Social Media

The restaurant business is just one of the many industries benefiting from social media.

While selling food can be one of the most profitable businesses to get into, running a restaurant can also be extremely tough.  It’s even harder to manage restaurants now with the global economy still on the decline.  It seems that most of the restaurants making money these days are those that offer dollar menus and cheap fares.  So now restaurants are leveraging on social media and the internet to market their business to the public.  Here are some of the ways restaurants can take advantage of Twitter and other social media.
Restaurants can listen to what the public wants.  This can be very helpful not just for restaurants but for other B2C businesses as well.  A company can ask its marketing team and its other employees to listen to what people have to say about their restaurant and their food.  “Listening” to what the people are talking about in Twitter and other social networks can help restaurants plan their menus and all the other aspects of the businesses better.

Twitter and other social media are very effective channels for making announcements and reaching many people.  This means that you can use them to announce menu specials, events and other special announcements.  Social can be a very effective medium for informing the public about new products and offerings by the restaurant.  No need to print flyers or place expensive ads on the local newspaper simply spread the word by posting a message on your Twitter and other social accounts.

Use social media to spread the word about your business by offering Retweet promos such as offering a free drink for clients who order a meal and retweet your message.  Offer small incentives for people who will post your messages online. You don’t have to lose money on this activity, just think of creative ways to encourage people to talk about your restaurant.

You can also help build a community around your restaurant by starting conversations with clients.  Ask them what their favorite meals are from your restaurant.  Ask them what more you can do for them.  Just engage the people in your network so that you develop a loyal community around your brand.

Provide simple food and cooking tips to your clients.  Providing useful information really helps a lot in building trust and loyalty between a company and its clients. You don’t have to give-away your trade secrets but you can always post simple tips about food preparation and other kitchen tips.

You can also use social media to greet clients during special events or congratulate them.  People usually feel special when small gestures like these are made by the restaurant.
