Why Virtual Assistance is Thriving in this Economy

Virtual Assistance has become a good option not just for companies looking to hire workers but for workers who have lost their corporate jobs.

The downturn in the global economy in 2008 has caused many businesses to re-evaluate their business processes and to ensure that they are not throwing money away in processes that do not deliver the desired results or return on investment.  This re-evaluation of business processes have resulted in employee lay-offs, shortening of work hours and other cost-cutting measures.

For some companies the only viable option for providing employment and continuing to operate profitably is to hire virtual workers who will perform a variety of tasks for the company. Companies choose to hire virtual assistants because VAs offer companies greater flexibility.  A company has no obligation to retain the services of the virtual assistant even if the company can no longer afford to pay the assistant’s salary.  When a company hires a virtual office assistant, the company is only paying for the productive time. This means that a highly-skilled VA may charge a higher per hour rate than a regular employee but you are paying for the productive time. This means that when you pay for 10 hours of VA time in a week, you are paying for 10 hours worth of productive time.  Hiring a VA also offers companies other cost savings such as savings on office equipment and space. The flexibility and the cost-savings that VAs provide companies make virtual assistance the viable option for companies during the tough economic times.

And it’s not just companies that benefit from virtual assistance even laid-off workers who have a hard time finding new work are getting into virtual assistance. The industry is attracting not just stay-at-home moms but also workers who now want to establish their own VA practices.

Virtual assistance is becoming a career option for many because it also provides flexibility for the workers.  VAs who operate their own business operations can take on as few or as many clients as they want, depending on the kind of income they want to earn.  A freelance virtual assistant can also take his practice any direction he chooses.   A virtual assistant can choose to specialize on certain tasks or provide a wide range of services for clients.  A VA can also choose to work independently of for an established VA company.
