A Few Sure fire Ways to Fail at Twitter Marketing
While there are no secret recipes to succeeding at Twitter marketing there are surefire ways to fail.
Due to the buzz surrounding Twitter, many companies are jumping on the bandwagon hoping to benefit from the low-cost communication tool. While Twitter is easy to use and understand, it’s not that easy to gain success from Twitter marketing, especially because your success will depend on the contents you post, the value you provide as well as the time you spend on the network. In fact even if Twitter is free and easy to use, it can be easy to fail at Twitter marketing. Below are some of the surefire ways you can fail at Twitter marketing.
Talking without listening- Twitter is most effective if used as a two-way communication channel. While it is a good medium for broadcasting important information to followers, its use can be maximized if you also use it as a feedback channel. The more open you are to feedback the easier it will be for you to resolve problems and issues related to your products and services. The people on Twitter are also more interested in interacting with people who reply, retweet and engage them. If all you do is talk and not listen, your followers will not grow to a respectable number, and people will not learn to follow or trust the things that you tweet.
Not tweeting often enough- if you post a message every two weeks, how do you expect people to follow you. You need to tweet regularly so that people will be more interested in following you.
Getting impatient with social media results- people who get impatient with social media marketing often abandon their efforts. This is because they often get into social media marketing expecting instant results. Success in social media marketing takes time so you have to be ready to invest that time. Depending on your approach, you can really gain money directly from your Twitter activities or you can gain other values from the service.
Not providing value- the only way decent businesses earn money is by providing value to clients. This is also how social media marketing works, before you can even gain anything from it, you must first provide value. You must contribute to the community before you can expect to gain something in return

I totally agree with the points you made about using twitter of social marketing. A suggestion on this blog post: Make a header after the first paragraph stating "4 Ways to Fail at Twittering", then list the next paragraphs as an ordered list numbered 1 to 4, perhaps with the label in boldface (i.e. "Talking without listening") - this will make your post easier for busy people to skim and get your message, and it is also more search engine friendly.
I'm doing a lot of the things you suggest here on my Twitter account @thomasjwest
Best wishes.
