People Go Online to Connect with Others

Use the results of a survey to design your social media plan.

According to the results of a survey posted online, a big percentage of the people who use the internet go online to connect with others. According to the survey results which were released by Ruder Finn, 92%of the people who use the internet do so to “connect with others”.  This explains the popularity of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. These networks allow people to connect and share information with one another. The survey also revealed that 76% of the users who were surveyed go online “to discuss”, 72% answered they go online“to be part of a community” and 79% went used the internet to “keep informed”.There were 500 participants aged 18 years old and above, in the survey.

What does all these numbers and percentages mean for your business?  When you look at majority of the reasons US internet users go online, you will realize that the best way to reach out to them is to provide information and entertainment and to keep the relationships social.  If you want to use social media for your business, you should forget about hard selling. Only 33% of the people who use the internet said they go online to “make a purchase”. But just because only 33% of those surveyed said they intentionally go online to buy does not mean that companies should no longer use social media to reach customers.Because people use social media to connect to others, keep informed and be part of a community, companies should use social media to do the same things-companies should keep tings social.  A company that wants to succeed in social media marketing should provide information, connect with users, and build a community around their brands.

Many of the people who go online want to discuss, connect with people and learn more.  Applying the result of the survey to a business, a company must provide useful information about its products and features and let the prospective clients decide if the product or service is useful or valuable in their lives. Social media help companies reach customers and potential clients to provide them with information.  It is up to the company to meet the needs of the US internet users through social media.
