How Social Media Give Small News a Chance

With traditional media, there is a strict bureaucracy that controlled what information gets through. In social media, anyone can publish anything online and get an audience.

More often than not, only big and important news make it in traditional media. This is understandable because of the costs and the processes involved in creating content for traditional media.  Having an ad published or shown in traditional money cost a lot of money. Getting press releases published is free but it is difficult to get PR published especially if your PR is not written well or is not news-worthy.  Traditional media have a tendency to focus on stories that sell. This is also because their income depends on their readers as well as their advertisers.  On the other hand, the nature of social media gives people and companies the chance to get information out there without spending too much money or too much time on the process. A small bit of news has the bigger chance of getting an audience online than it does offline. In social media, a company can publish anything it wants.  No news is too small for social media. A company can announce any bit of news happening in its company and products through social media. Even if you just changed the color of your packaging or you changed your operating hours, you can share that information with people through social media.  You can also share a photo or a video with people. You can share any kind of information you want, just make sure that whatever it is that you are sharing with   You can even use a single article and publish it through different channels so you get maximum exposure from a single material. Social media hold such a great potential in terms of sharing information to people; it is up to the company how to take advantage of the potential.

In this troubled economy, it is very important to get information out there to the public. Letting people know what’s up in your business, in your industry and with your products will help you establish mind share in the public.  Having strong connections with the public will really help your business gain long term success.  There is no single correct way to use social media and a company can use them in any way the company sees useful for business.
