During tough economic times like today, a company that does not remain active in its PR efforts could suffer even more from the slow economy.  A company that wants to remain standing even during tough economic times and long after the economy has recovered again should be active with its PR activities.  Good PR can certainly be good for client and investor relations.  Managing the company’s reputation is also very helpful during tough economic times because having good PR can boost employee morale. When things are uncertain in your business and even in your industry, good PR can help stop false rumors that can affect your business negatively.  A company that does not manage its PR during tough times may find that a bad rumor or issue that spread can hurt the company’s reputation.  Even a simple rumor that spread quickly online can be difficult to dispel down the line and can surround and hound the company through many years. Bad PR can also result in a negative image which may result in employee, client and investor distrust.  When times are tough and there is so much uncertainty surrounding a business, people might talk about the things happening or not happening in your business and without a clear explanation or clarification from your business whatever negative comments are being discussed about your business could hurt your business even in a small way.

A company must take care of its image because it is much harder to clean up a tainted image than it is to just keep it clean.
