Secret to Social Media Success- Be Authentic

Because people use social media to connect with people, the best way to succeed in the use ofsocial media is to be authentic.

In the past, people were perfectly capable of separating their online lives with their real-life personalities is they wanted to. But today, with social media becoming a big part of many people’s lives, the best way for people to gain benefits from social media use is to be authentic.

The social networks have become an extension of people’s lives.  What’s good about the social networks is that it has become an easy way for people to update one another about what is going on in their lives. This has definitely helped people reconnect with old friends and keep relationships both personal and professional to keep going.

For companies that want to take advantage of social media for business, the same rules applies- be authentic.  In any communication with the public, it is important to remain truthful and authentic. That is the only way you can build your credibility online.  Social media provide companies with the perfect opportunity to send out information that can help it build its image and prop up its brands online. The only thing this would work is if the company’s online and offline reputations complemented each other and if the company released pieces of information that are truthful and really represented the company well.

Authenticity matters because that is the only way real relationships are built.  If the company is not authentic, truthful and sincere then even if you start to gain a good number of followers in the different social networks, then the relationship you build will be shallow. To form deeper connections that you can expect to last-be authentic.

Also, because of the interconnection of networks and people,it has become incredibly easy to verify information, and to research about the context of information and messages.  The social networks have also made it easier for information to spread online.

People can no longer say they are something they are not.Companies can no longer claim certain information to be truthful when it isn’t.  Because the flow of information is very open in social networks and the internet, it is not a good idea for people to post misleading or fake information online.
