Twitter Tips for Businesses

Twitter can be a very powerful tool for businesses. Here is how you can really make Twitter work for you.

Twitter is clearly one of the most popular networks online today.  It is used not just by individuals but also by companies that want to expand its reach to the people that use the internet in their daily lives.

Below are some of the tips that you can follow to help you make your Twitter work for you:

  • Put up a good Twitter profile- make sure that the description on your profile is interesting and appropriate and use a good picture for your profile.  When people find interesting messages online that you have posted, they will most likely check the information on your profile to see if you are worth following.
  • Tweet good news- subscribe to google alert or other news feeds for news and information on topics and keywords that matter in your industry and then share these pieces of information to your followers. You do not always have to share original content; you can link to other people’s websites and other people’s information as long as they are significant and valuable to your own followers.
  • Retweet- you do not have to promote only your company and your own messages. Retweeting other people’s messages help a lot in generating goodwill within your social network. But do not retweet for the sake of retweeting. Make sure you are reposting a message that has real value and will reflect positively on your business.
  • Personalize- as much as possible avoid automating the functions of your Twitter.  Do not use auto-direct messages that send generic messages.  Make sure you maintain as genuine and as sincere as possible.
  • Do not repeat tweets too much- do not repeat the same kinds of tweet over and over.  Make sure you keep things interesting and always have something fresh for your followers.
  • Use hashtags- a hashtag allows people to search for topics more efficiently.
  • Promote your Twitter account offline- make sure that you also promote your Twitter account in your print ads or in other opportunities offline.
  • Reply to people-make sure you connect with your followers by replying to them.  When you reply to people, you make them feel that they are important to your business.
