There is a funny episode on the TV show Better Off Ted wherein the corporation raises funds for a charity but only donates a small percentage of the amount raised to the charity and spends 90% of the money on letting the world know the good deeds the company is doing. Veridian Dynamics, the company in the TV show, even releases a video of how important it is to let the world know it is doing good deeds and uses the philosophical question of “when a tree falls into the ground and nobody is there to hear it, did it happen?” Now this particular episode of Better Off Ted may be taking things too far, but it’s funny because it has a little grain of truth in there. You may be doing charitable works not entirely for publicity, but it would still do your business good if you can promote your charitable activities. That can be part of effective public relations. When people know the good things that you do, they can be encouraged to do good things themselves. Also when you do good things, they really help boost your image to the public.
Now aside from doing charitable and social projects, you can also do other things to enhance your PR. Organizing meetings or free seminars can be a good PR activity for your business. These days, companies are even doing free seminars for bloggers. Influential bloggers can write about the event and boost the company’s online image. You just need to make sure that the seminar can provide good information to attendees. Plan seminars well. You do not have to stage big seminars but make sure that even intimate seminars have good resource speakers, serve good food if you have to and make sure people can only say good things about your seminar.
Sponsor worthy events. You need to spend on public relations there is no question about that. Make sure that you sponsor worthy events and organizations. That can really help in developing good will between your company and other groups.
Publish informative articles. You can release not just press releases but informational articles that have something to do with your business or your industry.
