So should you hire a virtual assistant of just hire a temp worker?

There are companies that have never tried hiring virtual assistants who ask- why should I hire a virtual assistant when there are easily a dozen or so people who are willing to work as temporary workers for their business.

Here is a comparison of temporary workers and virtual assistants:

1.)    Flexibility in working time- virtual assistants are usually more flexible when it comes to working time because they work from home. This means that they can agree to working at night, off-hours or even weekends.  Temp workers who need to work in your office need to go during office hours.  If you need workers to work graveyard shift, you are better off hiring a VA. Not only will come out cheaper for you, you also will not be endangering your worker because the worker does not need to travel to the office at night or some other unsafe time.

2.)    Interest in your success-  virtual assistants usually take an interest in your success because they know that the more successful your business is, the more jobs you will be able to outsource.  Temp workers do not always work with that mindset. Many temp workers only care about the tasks that they are given and do not really care if your business grown any further. 

3.)    Virtual assistants usually have more experience- virtual assistants usually have many years of experience and decide to work at home just because it is most convenient for them or they have finally decided to establish their own outsourcing business.  While many temps are also skilled workers, most virtual assistants have updated skills in many areas.

4.)    Virtual assistants do not need extensive training and orientation- virtual assistants are so used to providing services to clients that they usually do not need extensive training. They just need clear instructions and  maybe a short test-run (depending on the task or project) and then they can already do the tasks on their own with minimal supervision.

5.)    Virtual assistants charge for 100% Productive Time- Temps are usually paid on a per day basis. If you hire them for a week, you need to pay them for that whole week.  With a VA, if you only need the services of the VA for 1 hour per day then you only pay for that time.
