Armed
with a headset, crystal clear voices and a computer monitor, the BPO
workers are ready to attack. A legion is ready to conquer the vast
lands of great opportunities in the business of outsourcing.
Stream Global Services Inc. a New York listed business process
outsourcing firm plans to hire 5,000 call center agents this
year, 1,500 of those will be employed in a couple of months from now.
They will be receiving a starting monthly salary of P.12, 000 plus a
hiring bonus of P.10, 000.
R. Scott Murray the chief
executive officer of Stream Global Services was still expanding
and looking for possible call center site possibly in Cavite to add to
his existing nine call center areas already in the Philippines. The
supposed 5,000 army of well spoken call agents will spread out to the
centers in Eastwood Libis, Quezon City, Makati City, Muntinlupa City,
Pampanga, Mandaluyong City and Cebu City.
This year Stream
Global will be investing ten million dollars in technology in the
Philippines which is twice more than they invested last year. Around $
160 million or around 20% of Stream Global’s worldwide operations is in
the Philippines.
25.5 percent stake in Stream Global was owned
by the Ayala Group of companies, primarily through eTelecare Global
Solutions Inc., before they engaged in a stock exchanged deal and
merged with the company.
In 22 countries Stream Global has
spread its operations and has hired 30,000 strong workforces. But Mr.
Murray sees the Philippines with a great potential as the next India If
the country will improve its educational and transport systems and
offer the business process outsourcing firms more incentives.
A
great deal of investment is at stake with the Filipinos as better
English speakers than most of the other 22 countries. Stream Global
might even plan to hire more than the supposed 5,000.
British
firm Catch Friday Enterprises,
head of operations James Pitt, with it's call center situated in
Davao, recently doubled it's capacity, and increased it's staff four
fold, much to the delight of the local community in the Philippines,
