Hurting Your Self Online
You could be hurting yourself online without being completely aware.
Sometimes habits that seem completely harmless to you may turn out to be hurtful for your image of your business. Make sure that you are not hurting yourself online by learning about the following bad manners and habits that could be affecting your business, your work and your future.
Here are some of the online mistakes you could be doing:
- Thinking you can get away with anything online just because no one reads your content- some people forget their manners when they are online just because they think no one reads them. You don’t know who could be reading your blog. Just remember, anything you publish online, even using locked or private accounts can spread over the internet. Companies now use the internet to search for more information on their clients. And prospective employees, make sure that when a company does the Google search, that only or mostly good things pop up online. Even individuals often do a little googling when they are interested in someone so the things you post online could also have an effect on your personal and social life. Always keep your manners intact whether or not someone reads your blog and online profiles.
- Posting ridiculous profile photos- why do people insist on posting the most inappropriate photos online? Remember that people who do not know you personally will base their first impressions on you on your profile photo.
- Overdoing it. There is such a thing as being overeager online. Make sure that although you are aggressive, that your intentions are sincere and that you really aren’t spreading yourself too thinly. Make sure you communicate effectively online and you are using social media to the fullest.
- Not doing enough to get noticed or to get the good word about yourself or your business out there. If you have amazing skills or products that could really make the world a better place, then do a bit of self-promotion. Not doing enough online may not get you in trouble but that will not get you far either. You have to make sure that you get the full benefits of using social media.
- Being too rigid. To increase followers and to get people to know you, stop being rigid or too strict online. Let your good side shine. Be helpful to others and really provide people with value. Keep your mind and your heart open and just really communicate with people.
