Establishing Social Media Strategy

Here are some tips that can help you with your own social media strategy.

Here are some of the keywords and buzzwords used in social media:  Conversations, Audience, Influencers, Engagement, Communication, Tribe, Community and Humanize.

Take the time to think about each word and how you associate them with your business and your business processes.  You may not figure out right away how you can design your social media strategy but just thinking of these keywords and letting your ideas flow, you can have a media strategy that will work for your business.

If you have had some pretty successful campaigns using traditional media, you can create a good campaign using social media too.  Good communication is good communication, it doesn’t matter what channel you use.  You just have to tweak campaigns to accommodate the fact that in social media information travels more quickly.  You have to make sure information in your campaigns is very easy to “digest” and very easy to share.

Now another important thing when developing a social media strategy is to always think about what your clients or you target market wants. Just focus on that and you will find ways to communicate with them and give them what you want.

Another important thing is to identify what goals you have for using social media.  That together with understanding your target market will help you use social media effectively in your business. Remember, popularity does not equal influence.   There have been viral campaigns that did not result in the increase in sales for the company.  This is fine if your only goal for using social media is to establish a strong image for your brand. But if you want an increase in sales and have other goals for your social media use, then you should develop a strategy that will really bring you your desired results.  Think about what you want and work actively toward reaching your goals.  Sometimes it will take longer than expected but as long as you keep at it and get positive results albeit in small forms, then you know you are doing something right.  It is possible the growth will not come instantly overnight but it is possible to have organic growth where people really learn to appreciate your brand and grow a relationship with you.

Measure results when using social media.  It is not true that you cannot measure the results of social media. There is no one way to measure positive results but there are ways to measure them, depending on what goals you have set.
