Excellent points! A business blog can provide a "voice" for your company that educates and informs your website visitors; it is more easily updated than traditional Web pages. These are several good examples of company blogs, that are supported by the company. They tell potential employees about your company’s culture. They make customers feel as if they know your company. They inform your current employees and your customers about new products and services.

You have made some very fine points in your article about the proper way for using blogs as part of a social media strategy for reputation building in business.

We used to tell customer service people to hang a small mirror near their telephones and glance at themselves smiling before making or taking a phone call.

I once went a bit further and gave everyone a little red sponge clown's nose to put on before taking a look in that little mirror. It tickled them and put them in an outgoing mood.

Customer service is all about having a positive and helpful attitude. These little techniques were quite effective and will always be.

Businesspeople need to adopt a similar approach before starting a new blog entry to share with an audience. This (the blog) is not the place where you hard sell to prospective customers.

Rather, this is the place where you educate consumers and help others form a good impression of you.

After they have read your blog piece (and often it takes a bit longer) they should be quietly asking themselves, "is this someone I might like to do business with?"

Social Media is NEVER about us. It is ALWAYS about meeting the needs of others. When we are successful at satisfying and impressing others, we have a better shot at doing business with them and earning their future recommendations.

Very True Lawrence. Providing value is important and so is doing it efficiently.
I think that businesses should be cognizant of the fact that social media if not used consciously and effectively can leave you with couple of hours short without any ROI.
I have been thinking about it and have come up with some tips to get the best out of social media without wasting too much time.
